What is mediation?
Mediation is basically a form of settlement negotiation. What makes mediation different from other forms of settlement negotiation is that a mediator is used. A mediator basically takes offers back and forth between the parties. Usually in divorce mediation the parties are physically separated in different rooms. If mediation is successful, an agreement is signed and filed with the court, and court becomes unnecessary. Certain counties, including Marion county, require that mediation occur in all cases that are going to need more than two hours of the court’s time.
